INFORMATION ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Where - San Diego, CA

When - The workshop starts on Tuesday, July 29, at 6 PM and ends on Friday, August 1, at 12 PM.

Places we will visit - San Diego Zoo, Famosa Slough, Point Loma, La Jolla Cove, Pacific Beach, Mission Bay.

What we will photograph - wildlife, birds, surfers, waves, landscapes, sunsets, silhouettes, and more.

What to bring - Your DSLR or mirrorless camera, telephoto lens, a normal focal length lens, extra batteries, SD cards, rain protection, sunscreen, a hat

Cost - $995 for the workshop, not including lodging, airfare, and most meals.

50% deposit is due at time of registration. Balance is due 30 days before the workshop.

What is included - The fee includes photography instruction, one dinner, one brunch, and a wine and appetizer happy hour. It also provides transportation to the venues (to and from the instructor's Airbnb/hotel) and zoo admission. Please note: Some walking and standing are required during the three days. 

Who can attend - Anyone with a passion for photography and the outdoors. Beginner photographers are welcome. I CAN ONLY ACCEPT FIVE PEOPLE.

Pre-Trip Essentials

  1. Travel Insurance:

    • Obtain travel insurance that covers cancellations for any reason, including inadequate workshop enrollment. See the Cancellation Policy below.
  2. Waiver of Liability:

    • Be prepared to sign a liability waiver stating you have no medical conditions that prevent workshop attendance.
  3. Equipment:

    • Bring a laptop for Photoshop editing if you wish to participate in the editing sessions (optional).

Travel Itinerary

  1. Arrival and Departure:

    • Arrive on Sunday before the workshop to enjoy San Diego before it starts.
    • Depart the Sunday after the workshop for maximum exploration time.
  2. Full Itinerary:

    • Expect to receive a detailed workshop schedule about three weeks prior to the event.

Accommodation

  1. Recommended Stay:

    • The Wayfarer Hotel at 707 Pacific Beach Drive, San Diego, CA 92109.
      • Proximity: Close to most venues except the San Diego Zoo.
      • Highlight: Beachfront location in the Mission Bay/Pacific Beach area.
  2. Alternative Options:

    • Feel free to stay at other accommodations in Mission Bay or Pacific Beach to suit your preferences.

Activities in San Diego

  1. Before and After the Workshop:

    • Must-Visit Attractions: San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, La Jolla Cove, Old Town, and Coronado Island.
    • Relaxation: Walk along Mission Beach or enjoy water activities like paddleboarding in Mission Bay.
  2. Dining Suggestions:

    • Pacific Beach: Local seafood restaurants and casual beachfront cafes.
    • Mission Bay: Scenic dining spots with views of the marina.

      3. Weather

                  Mid to high 70's to low 60's at night.


Additional Tips

  1. Transportation:

    • Public transit or rideshares are convenient for local travel.
    • Consider renting a car for day trips to areas like La Jolla or downtown San Diego.
    • Uber is the best way to get around. We will be using  Uber XL for our excursions.
  2. Packing List:

    • Comfortable clothing and walking shoes for the workshop and outdoor activities.
    • Sunscreen and a reusable water bottle for San Diego's sunny weather.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations are only effective upon Mary Buck receiving a written cancellation notification, signed by the client. Full refunds are given up to 30 days in advance.

In the event a client fails to join a workshop, join it after departure or leave it prior to its completion, no refund will be made. There will be no refunds for any unused portions of the workshop.

CHANGE IN WORKSHOP: 

We will make every attempt to operate a workshop once confirmed, but will reserve the right to cancel and/or change a trip at our sole, reasonable discretion at any time due to insufficient bookings, unsafe or undesirable travel conditions for the participants and/or reasons beyond its control, such as: strikes, wars, acts of God, acts of government, civil unrest or any other cause whatsoever, that may make operation of the tour impossible, illegal, or inadvisable.

In the event that we cancel the workshop, then all  payments received from the client shall be refunded. We are not responsible for any expenses incurred by clients in preparing for the trip, including non-refundable or penalty-carrying airline tickets, special clothing, visa or passport fees, or other tour-related expenses.
